Video: Jake Gagne's Massive WorldSBK Crash at Assen

You may remember the name Jake Gagne from the time the road racer showed up to the Utah National in 2015 and qualified 23rd in the 450 Class. Gagne went on to finish 21st in the first moto before sitting out the second moto due to an aggravated hip flexor.

Gagne now rides for the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team in WorldSBK. During free practice 2 on Saturday at the TT Circuit in Assen, Netherlands, Gagne had a horrific crash. Luckily, Jake was relatively okay and even tried to ride in free practice 4.

He only completed a couple laps before pulling out. He underwent further assessment at Assen Wilhelmina Hospital, where a contusion to his C4 vertebrae was found. He was subsequently deemed unfit to take part in any further action this weekend.

“I felt a little bit better this morning after my big get-off yesterday, although was still very sore, but I thought I'd give things a go in FP4 this morning,” he said in a team press release. “However, after a couple of laps I was really struggling, so decided to come back to the box. We then decided to head to the local hospital, and a CT scan there showed I had a small contusion on my back. It could've been a lot worse, so I was happy to walk away from that crash. It's a shame I couldn't race today and won't race tomorrow, but the most important thing now is to heal up and be ready for the next round at Imola.”
