Headline of the Week

Weekly, the Racer X Slack thread is filled with great headlines from newspapers around the globe. So, we’ve decided to make it a weekly feature here on Exhaust.

WBZ-TV in Boston reported that four-year-old Julia Hartwell came home from Pentucket Workshop Preschool in Georgetown, Massachusetts, acting upset. When her mother Christine asked why, she said she had been told she wasn't allowed to say she had a "best friend" by one of the teachers that day.

After Hartwell contacted the school about the incident, the school defended its stance on the phrase, saying, "The term 'best friend' can lead other children to feel excluded."

Hartwell went on to tell the station that Julia is still apprehensive about using the phrase, even though more than a month has passed and she has been told she's allowed to say "best friend" at home.

“Children who are four years old speak from their heart,” Hartwell said. “They should be able to call kids anything loving. 'You’re my best friend. You’re my best pal.'”
