Movistar Yamaha Unveils Colors for 2018 MotoGP Season
The 2018 MotoGP season begins this week, with the first test of the season set to begin on Saturday and run through Monday in Sepang, Malaysia.
MotoGP teams do a great job of building up anticipation for the new season by holding huge presentations to introduce their team and livery for the new season.
Today, in Madrid, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP showed off its 2018 color scheme and announced a new deal with rider Maverick Vinales, which will keep the 23-year-old with the team through 2020.
Nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi is back with Yamaha for a sixth-straight season. This year will mark the 13th season the 38-year-old has ridden for Yamaha.
“The team presentation is special every year, also for me, because when you see your bike in the new colours, you start to feel excited,” Rossi said in a statement. “During the winter break I always miss riding my M1, and after seeing it today, I want to ride it as soon as possible. I only have to wait a few more days! Sincerely, I’m looking forward to starting the new season. Last year, I had one win and six podiums, but also some problems and injuries. We want to make our fifth year with Movistar memorable, so this year we will be pushing as hard as we can. The test in Sepang will be important. It’s the first opportunity for my guys to get together this year, which will be fun, but we’ll soon get serious because we want to get an idea of our level as soon as possible.”
For a fifth-straight season, Movistar, a major telecommunications company in Spain owned by telecommunications giant Telefonica Spain, will serve as title sponsor. Monster Energy, among others, will also be featured prominently on the bikes.
