This Honda Grom ADV Build Is Tasty

The Honda Grom has exploded in recent years. The single-cylinder 125cc bike has become popular with city riders, beginners, and just about anyone who wants a fun little bike to cruise around on. In fact, it’s gotten so popular that Kawasaki released its own version—the Z125 Pro—to compete with the Grom. (Side note: I own a Z125 and it's a blast.)

As with any bike, there is a lot of customization being put into the Grom, but I really liked this build from the folks at UpShift. (Full disclosure: Racer X photographer Simon Cudby is part of this magazine/site.)

They turned the Grom into a Dual Sport/Adventure bike, and it’s pretty sweet. Here is a bit about what they did:

With the rear of the bike looking much more streamlined, we installed Maxxis M6024 on/off-road tires front and rear, giving the Grom the traction it needed for the dirt. We decided after adding the tires and rear fender mod, the little Grom needed more parts to truly turn it into a dual sport motorcycle. We added Renthal play bike handlebars and Applied bar clamps with ASV brake and clutch levers. For protection, we added Cycra ProBend handguards, Spider grips, then topped it off with some Works Connection bling parts and Acerbis dual sport mirrors. The stock forks are way too soft, so Race Tech went through the forks and added heavier springs and their Gold Valve kit for a much more manageable ride. For the rear sprocket we stayed with the stock gearing but went with a black Supersprox sprocket for durability.
